Book Review - Shhh! Don't Talk About Mental Health by Arjun Gupta

Hello Everyone…

Today I am going to Review a newly launched Book - Shhh! Don't Talk About Mental Health by Arjun Gupta
The Title of the book and the three monkeys on the cover page grabbed my attention and I couldn’t resist to give it a read. The author has very neatly presented his thoughts in a very different perspective supported with hard work and research.
People still lack awareness about mental illness and address the mentally sick people  by names like Lunatic, insane, wild, and unstable. The ill-treatment towards those people is still on. Not like the olden days they have not beaten or chained today but the most sophisticated methods have been used. Their family, friends, and society abandon them or keep their distance, which makes them more isolated and tend to harm themselves.
Yashasvi at the age of 19 suffer from clinical depression, and it took him two long years to recover. The story focuses on the history of depression, clique theories, and the mentality of society towards the sufferer. Back in 500 to 1400 CE, people believed that the mind of a mentally ill was possessed by a demon and the priests do lotta this and that’s to get rid of the spirit. In 1247, Bethlem hospital was established in London for the mentally sick, but they were chained, beaten, and experimented on.
The most interesting part of the book is the historical facts about the Mentall Illness, the treatment, the stigmas attached to it and the prejudice.
He also talks about the people in the past, who had brought fruitful changes in  the society. One among them is Clifford Beers, He developed depression and suffered physical abuse, humiliation, and mistreatment, but he overcame and wrote a book. Though he was neither a doctor nor a psychiatrist, his work is highly honoured and he is considered as a father of Mental Health in America.

Mentally depressed person should be treated with utmost love and care which plays a major role in their recovery. If a person didn't get the timely care, and support from their family and friends, they tend to isolate themselves that leads to self-harm. One should need to understand and identify the symptoms of mental illness and get treated immediately..
The book deals with a notion which is not considered paramount. The difference between mental and physical illness, emotional intelligence, the biopsychosocial model, the role of media and movies played, the stigma and stress comes with the disorder are explained in a subtle language. When the voices in your head become your worst enemy, the pain is unbearable. The emotional outbursts, angriness, and suicidal thoughts make a person more miserable and vulnerable. So instead of telling them to get over with it or get a life, try to understand their situation. Don't ignore, rant, or scold them. Talk to them when they are comfortable and ready. I would recommend this book and Kudos to the Author.

Book Review: Ramayana - The Game of Life : Shattered Dreams

I am honoured to be called upon by BlogAdda to review a book "Ramayana - The Game of Life : The Shattered Dreams" by Shubha Vilas.

Here before presenting my review of the book, I apologise blogadda for the delay of the review. As i was suffering from fever for the past 10 days so I couldn’t able to write the review, as my eyes were burning with irritation caused by fever.

Coming to the review Ramayana -The Game of Life by Shubha Vilas. Shattered Dreams is the sequel of the book, Rise of the Sun Prince,in the new spiritual and motivational series Ramayana - The Game Of Life.Twelve joyful years have passed in Ayodhya since the wedding of Rama and Sita at the end of the first Book.

In Shattered Dreams,Shubha Vilas narrates the riveting drama of Rama's exile.Through tales of Rama's unwavering and enigmatic person.the book teaches us how to handle reversals positively;through Bharata's actions,

it teaches us to handle temptation and through Sita's courage,to explore beyond our comfort zone. This complicated family drama provides deep insights on how human relationships work and how they fail.

Review~

Shubha Vilas narrated in a very interesting style which makes it easy to understand.  This book enlightens us to walk on the right path,to choose truth over any other thing. we can learn many lessons from this book which helps to make our life better.

It gives a clear explanation of importance of relationships of every aspect of life in every page. Every page is a new lesson for the reader.

As we say, “Truth itself becomes a shield that protects one from all calamities and not exiled”.

This book tells us to show Kindness, accomodation, appreciation, integrity of substance which adds to internal rituals  while Money, fame, glorification, grandeur add to external rituals of show. it also explains about our environment which raises our hopes or dashes them at times.

It also speaks about the importance of scriptures, which was cleverly molded by kaikeyi, the  meaning of ideal marriage, the importance of peaceful mind rather than Luxuries and also clarifies the importance of loyalty. Remembrance of one's humble beginnings even after achieving great heights is the pill that prevents the acidity of arrogance.

It throws light on how one can maintain good relationships in life. Relationships thrive when genuine service is acknowledged by active gratitude. The decisions have to be made in moments of strength not in moment of weakness for a healthy relationship.

Communication is must for a good relationship wherein Rama and Sita speak so little but understood eachother so much.

Good relationship grow when both the happy and sad phases of life are shared and complaints are kept at bay.

Convenience is about changing the law to suit your life but maturity is about changing your life to salute the law.

I would only recommend this for people who are interested in looking at Ramayana.

Life is what you make it

Book Review:-

“Life is what you make it” is an inspiring and motivating story of the protagonist Ankita.
She is young, good looking and smart and has many friends in her life. Even boys swooning over her. Everything seems to go in her favour as she manages to get into a premier management school for her MBA. Sadly, six months later, she is a patient in a mental health hospital in Bangalore. As it is discovered, she has bipolar disorder. Bipolar disorder is a serious brain disorder that causes dramatic shifts in moods, energy levels, attitudes and ability to carry day to day tasks. It can be severely crippling that it can result in damaged relationships, poor job or academic performance and even suicide.

Destiny pushes Ankita off track in her life. Perhaps, many would have given up at this stage. But how Ankita stands up with courage and determination to take control of her life is the crux of this truly motivating story.

The author has mentioned that this book though a work of fiction but it is based on some real experiences. If the character of  Ankita is real, then hats off to her! She is one of the role models for life. She shows us how to make the best out of our individual lives!

This book not just entertains you, but it makes you to take stock of your life and inspires you to be the ‘real’ you! Also go for what you truly believe in deep inside your heart. We all have just one life and we need to make the best use of it so that life would be proud of us in the end.

I being a writer myself, remember one of my reader’s reactions after reading my story “Another Dream”. This story had touched her so much that she wanted to live her life with passion. I never thought that my story would have so much impact upon my reader. Now, the same thing has happened to me after reading this book. I would say that it is one of those books which made an impact upon me.

This happens to be my first book review. I thank my colleague Prashanth for giving me this book and making me to read it. I also thank Preeti  for writing such a wonderful book!

This book is already a best seller. But still I highly recommend it to all those who haven’t yet read it. Please read it!
