Daily while crossing the Ashok Pillar I near forgot to admire
huge pillar in Ashok Nagar named as Ashok pillar. I will have a glance at the
pillar with four lion head stump everyday. Sometimes a dove will be sitting on
it.
It is situated in the residential locality at the southern
part of Chennai, India. It was established in 1964. At the heart of this
colony, stands the Ashok Pillar. This four lion head stump which resembles the
one erected by king Ashoka during the 3rd century BC at Sanchi.
The Tamil Nadu Housing Board has constructed this pillar during
the year 1970s to promote this suburban locality of Ashok Nagar in Chennai. Later
this Ashok Pillar has become the landmark
of the locality Ashok Nagar, which gradually turned into a shopping hub.
These trendy shopping
areas and the metro connection are making Ashok Nagar an attractive locality
for investment.
